Passenger services have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport following a significant air traffic control outage grounded all flights.

All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped because of an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

A number of travelers reported being stuck in aircraft on the tarmac as the outage continued.

Flights Resume with Ongoing Delays

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that services were back online, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "patience and understanding".

That said, significant disruption are likely to persist for some time. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with a host of additional flights subject to postponements.

A spokesperson had initially projected that a significant number of movements could be affected.

"Travelers are urged to get in touch with their carrier for the most up-to-date details on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.

Source of the Issue

The problem was traced to the full ground stop to an systems failure with its control tower systems vendor.

Passengers continue to be advised to check the status of their flight before heading to the hub as backlogs are cleared.
