Exploring an Unusual Steam Demo: Playing as a Poop with the Goal to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have discovered numerous entertaining independent titles. However, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer features a hero that is truly a turd striving to make its way to a commode. In case you're wondering, "Unko" means "poop."

The gameplay is easy to grasp: just use a jump control. Throughout numerous levels, encounter mini-bosses and access a market to buy customizations for your dung hero.

Execute your movements with caution, since one error requires beginning again. Leap on air pockets to propel yourself upward, cross disappearing ledges, and activate buttons to reveal hidden paths. Collect coins to purchase more difficult game content where gameplay intensifies.

Graphically, the game features vibrant stages and catchy music score. The simple art featuring morphing basic polygons evokes memories of players of beloved games like Earthbound.

While it's difficult to name other games where you control a piece of feces, gaming frequently incorporated fecal matter. For example, in Death Stranding, players craft throwables from protagonist waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ dung as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, such content is present heavily in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Despite its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already garnered notable accolades, such as winning at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is available now on Steam, with the final release set to debut on Steam this November.
