Tuchel Criticizes Wembley Crowd Support Following Dominant Win Over Wales.
Thomas Tuchel voiced his regret that the Three Lions team did not get greater backing from the home crowd during their decisive triumph over Wales on Thursday night.
The manager was pleased to see his team showcase their strong performance, with finishes from Rogers, Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the opening quarter settling the contest. But, he was not content with the atmosphere at the national stadium.
“With limited training days to get ready against a drilled team and we did very well,” the coach stated. “It could have been 5-0 up at half-time. We missed the additional goals. There was little noise. There was no support back from the crowd. Our team gave their all to win.”
“How much more can you deliver in the first quarter? We prevented them get away. When you only hear just the Welsh supporters for 30 minutes, it’s sad because the team warranted greater backing today.”
“I maintain this statement. We cannot do more than leading 3-0 in a derby. I hoped for a greater support in periods where it is challenging.”
“After halftime, to support us, there was excessive backing for the opposition. It might have aided us to regain energy, but it is what it is and that is it.”
Squad Decisions Vindicated by Display
Away from risking a fight with supporters, the manager also raised eyebrows by omitting Bellingham and Phil Foden from his team selection. However the choice was backed up by Rogers delivering another standout performance in the No 10 position and getting his maiden goal for his country.
“He is what he is,” Tuchel explained. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is fighting for his place.”
Wales Manager Hopes for Lessons from Loss
The Wales manager hopes that Wales, who face a strong Belgian side in a crucial qualifying match on Monday, take lessons from their disappointing first-half display.
“This is why I scheduled this friendly,” Bellamy said. “I need to see our standing. Where do we want to go? Who do we want to be? Today gives me motivation.”
Injury Concern for Striker
Watkins was taken off at half-time after hitting a goalpost and is a concern when England face their next opponents in the Latvian capital in a qualifier on next week.
